KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) today announced the party’s willingness to officially cooperate with the Pakatan Harapan opposition pact subject to certain conditions including changing the name of the pact.
PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that they wanted the pact to use a new identity, logo and a common manifesto for the next general election.
“We also want candidates to represent the pact and not an individual party in the GE,” he told a press conference here today.
Pakatan Harapan is made up of DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (a splinter of PAS) while PPBM is a splinter of UMNO, the backbone of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
On PPMB’s relations with opposition party PAS, Dr Mahathir said PPMB’s was maintaining an open door policy on the Islamic party joining the new opposition front.
