KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 14: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has made a request to officially join Pakatan Harapan.

However, Bersatu urged that the coalition have a name change and a change of logo.

Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that this to guarantee that there would be straight fights against Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next general election.

The former prime minister also said that the party will be offering some suitable name choices for the coalition to be under one symbol and one election manifesto.

“Other than a new name, we also want to have a new logo and a symbol for the election, as well as a manifesto,” he told reporters after chairing a Pribumi supreme council meeting here Tuesday.

Dr Mahathir said that Bersatu also suggested that only one candidate is fielded in each constituency to represent this coalition.

When questioned if this would enable seats among the component parties, Dr Mahathir said that he is confident that the new tactic would work.

“I am sure they will agree to this. One of the reasons they lost in the last election was because they failed to unite under one symbol,” he said.

On the seat distribution, however, he said that is yet to be known as Bersatu is yet to be part of Pakatan Harapan, which consist of DAP, PKR and Amanah.

Dr Mahathir also stated that Bersatu is open to cooperation with any political party and not just PAS.
