KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 13: MCA vice youth chief Tan Kok Eng believes that former Umno Information Chief’s Tan Sri Annuar Musa suspension as Mara chairman in January has nothing to do with the latter’s support for the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

“I think he is an open minded leader and appreciate his efforts to support recognition of UEC.

“But please don’t politicise it.

“I think that his suspension has nothing to do with UEC,” Tan told The Malaysian Times (TMT) when contacted today.

Tan was referring to Musa’s allegation that his suspension was due to his support for the UEC and claimed to have been the scapegoat in internal party politics.

Tan added that since UEC has been recognized by more than 800 universities around world he believed that the efforts from all leaders to urge government to recognize UEC are relevant.

“So it is nothing to do with a leader to claim that he is victim because of that.

“Many leaders including PM (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib TunRazak) stated before that the recognition of UEC is possible if it complies with the education guidelines in Malaysia.

“MCA has worked really hard for this issue too and we hope that leaders don’t politicize this issue,”reiterated Tan.

Sin Chiew Daily had reported that Musa claimed that he was “pulled down” so that he would not have a solid stand in politics.

Musa added that the Pelaburan Mara Bhd or UniKL’s sponsorship of Kelantan’s football team The Red Warriors was not the main reason for his suspension.

The UEC is a private examination conducted by the Dong Zong, the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia.
