If you’re after the best cake in Eastern China, you don’t actually have to go all the way to China to get it! Secret Recipe, the popular Malaysian-owned café brand, was the winner of the Best Cake Award for Eastern China, beating out 7,000 other competitors for the title.
The brand’s delectable chocolate brulee cake nabbed the coveted regional prize in the Best Cake in China Award, which aims to uncover the best cakes across six regions in China.
The award is organised by China’s biggest restaurant rating website, Dianping.com and Fonterra China Foodservices. Dianping.com has been likened to the Chinese version of Yelp and has 190 million active users in the country.
The nationwide search for the best cakes took place from Nov 1 to Dec 5, 2016 across 290 Chinese cities, with over 10 million votes garnered overall from Dianping.com users.
So, just what’s so amazing about the chocolate brulee cake?
Well, it’s a multi-layered delight that begins with a crispy biscuit base, a dense mud cake layer, silky vanilla crème brulee in the middle, feather-light couverture chocolate mousse on top and a thin chocolate glaze to bring it all together.

With its velvety, very smooth and light-as-feather texture, the cake delivers a dreamy, creamy sensation in the mouth with intense chocolate and creme brulee hits that leave a lasting impression. It’s not surprising that it has won over so many taste buds in China.
The chocolate-focused cake has clearly been designed with decadence in mind and is perfect for those looking for a slice of pure hedonism. And the best part? It’s available at Secret Recipe outlets right here in Malaysia!
Interestingly, Secret Recipe launched in China in 2007 and now has over 100 outlets in the country. The brand also has 440 outlets across the region in countries like Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar and the Maldives.
